Symptoms

Frequent infections, slow wound healing, hair loss, diarrhea, taste-smell loss, white spots on nails, acne, growth retardation in children. Test: serum zinc (not always reliable).

Pumpkin seeds (28g): 2.2 mg. Lamb (100g): 4 mg. Lentils (1 cup): 2.5 mg. Cashews, almonds, oats, cheese. Adult need: 8-11 mg/day. Cold treatment: 50-75 mg/day for 5 days reduces symptom duration.
