Hashimoto's Diet Guide

Hashimoto = autoimmune thyroid disease. Diet doesn't cure but can lower antibody levels and manage symptoms. Anti-inflammatory approach + selenium + iodine balance is foundation.

Foods to Eat

Selenium sources (Brazil nuts 1-2/day, fish), zinc (pumpkin seeds, nuts), vitamin D (fatty fish, supplement), anti-inflammatory (olive oil, fish, vegetables, fruits). Gluten-free trial may lower antibodies in some.

Limit These

Goitrogenic foods (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower) — cook them, don't eat raw. Soy in excess + iodine deficiency can suppress thyroid. Excess iodine can also raise antibodies — balance.

Tests and Follow-up

TSH + T4 + T3 + anti-TPO + anti-Tg every 6-12 months. Selenium 200 mcg/day reduces anti-TPO clinically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is gluten-free necessary?

If celiac + Hashimoto, yes. Hashimoto alone — individual; some lower antibodies, others no change. 3-month trial reasonable.
